Membership

Thank you for your interest in Troop 1!

Each new scout and his family consider joining Boy Scouts with some reservations. After all, Boy Scouts involves notable differences from Cub Scouts and other youth activities, many of which may seem confusing, overly challenging, or curious at the start. But rest assured. The Boy Scout program has been honed since 1910 to develop independent, capable leaders and thoughtful young men.

Cub Scouts come in as boys and leave as boys.

Boy Scouts come in as boys and leave as young men.

Cub Scouts are parent led.

Boy Scouts are scout led and parent advised.

Cub Scouts participate in supervised activities.

Boy Scouts participate in activities requiring greater degrees of self-      supervision.

We welcome you and your son to make the transition with Troop 1.

Joining Troop 1

Before looking at any troop, and to avoid disappointing your son, make sure that he meets the minimum requirements for membership. To become a Boy Scout, a boy must:

  • have earned the Arrow of Light Award and be at least 10 years old OR
  • have completed the fifth grade and be at least 10 years old OR
  • be 11 years old but not yet 18 years old

The next step is to find a troop to join. If you are considering Troop 1, we want you to be comfortable with your choice of our troop. After all, scouting is an activity that involves many hours and encourages both scout and parent involvement. To help you learn more about Troop 1 we suggest any or all of the following:

  • attend one of our regular troop meetings (Please check the online troop calendar for available dates. It is recommended that you email us before attending to confirm both the appropriateness of the meeting and your attendance.)
  • talk with our members: scouts, leadership, and parents
  • attend our annual fall Open House

Once you have made the decision to join Troop 1, it’s time to sign up.
